In a one sided affair, Messi and the Albiceleste ensured their progression to the final as Lionel provided 2 assists and a brilliant free kick goal to take one step closer to Argentina’s first Trophy in 23 years.

The first strike came at only the 3rd minute. From a moment of confusion on the left wing, a pass to Lionel Messi saw the backline of the US with no one marking Messi. As soon as this became apparent focus shifted to the Barcelona man and he used it his advantage and chipped the back ball over to Lavezzi as he headed in Argentina’s first of 4 goals in a goal that should have been saved. Guzman didn’t stand his line or commit and it cost them.

The moment of the match came later on in the first half when Messi chose to wow the crowd with a brilliant taken free kick that simultaneously made him the highest scoring Argentinian player for the Albiceleste of all time with 55 goals surpassing Gabriel Bautistuta.

The half ended and it was apparent the numbers game and the ability of Argentina to hold possession through their constant moving lines was frustrating and completely killing any type of flow or game to begin for the US national team. The game ended with absolutely no shots not only on target but even on goal. Although Wondolowski was a rather negative and ill advised move, their was no service whatsoever from the midfield as Bradley, Zardes and company could not put any passes together to create chances.

Messi went ahead to provide an assist late in the game to give Higuain his 2nd goal and end the dreams of many USA fans of reaching the final on home soil. Argentina will now wait for the winner of tomorrow’s Chile vs Colombia second Semi-Final.
