Welbeck shines in Old Trafford Homecoming

Arsene  Wenger and company look to Wembley as the Gunners defeated United at Old Trafford for the first time since Anderson was relevant.

The complacency of United is still there well into the season and doubts over how long the Dutch coach Van Gaal will stay in power are well justified. Van Gaal has had both domestic and european success at every club he has manned the helm but Manchester United is proving to be his trickiest gig yet.

Nacho Monreal opened up the scoring with a slotted pass when he found himself alone on the left side of the box. The game had been rather open till the moment and Arsenal changed the dynamic by scoring first. The red devils though tied up the match when Di Maria had a moment of brilliance and found Wayne Rooney with a great early cross. Rooney put in a great header and was quite animated.

The hero of the night though was former United striker Danny Welbeck who found himself with an empty net after a horrible back pass to David DeGea from the United backline. Welbecks mind racing as he scorned his former club who so quickly dismissed him from the squad. Santi Cazorla was brilliant and put in a tremendous defensive effort that will probably go unnoticed but was a vital part of the win.

I really can’t explain how Van Gaal decides to leave quality players like Falcao and Mata on the bench and pretend he is in control of his squad. His ego in my opinion has gotten the better of him and I see his exit coming a lot sooner than most. Arsenal will play the winner of Bradford or Reading in the Semis.
